Hi! I'm Liz Pritchard, the artist and owner of Southern Somethings. I'm a work-from-home mom so I'm constantly juggling my day job in the ever-exciting world of insurance, my 2 very active kids and my art.
My husband Jonathon is incredibly busy as well working as a fisheries manager (he hates when I say he "goes fishing" for a living but it sounds way more fun that way), teaching a couple of college courses, coaching soccer teams and keeping up with our crazy schedule. When he has down time, he's been known to do a little wood-working so I hope to collaborate with him on some pieces in the near future.
My kids are wild, crazy and keep me on my toes! They both love soccer, are learning the joy of cooking, and are always on the go. I could go on and on about them but I'll leave it at that for now so I'm not "that mom".
We have 2 adorable dogs as well - Little who's a fluffy, grumpy old man and Jolene, the sleek, gentle, crazy 2 year old pointer mix. I keep a dog bed next to my desk so they're always either sleeping next to me or nudging my arm to throw a ball (so if you see any random little mistakes in my art, it's probably because a dog nudged me mid-burn...they're absolutely rotten).
A lot of my art is ocean-inspired so it's no surprise that the beach is my happy place. We live in south GA about 2 hours away from Panama City Beach and it just so happens my favorite beach at St. Andrews State Park is right next to PCB...how convenient!
I discovered my love of pyrography by accident (or maybe it was fate...). During the beginning of quarantine 2020, I found a small wood-burner my son got for Christmas one year. I thought it would be a fun thing since we were all stuck at home. A day or two after I first used it, I managed to break it. Oops. But I was already hooked so I convinced Jonathon that I needed a newer, fancier one so I could "make gifts for family and save us money at Christmas". Little did I know that it would turn into not only a fun hobby, but an obsession, a passion and a business! It's helped (ok, forced) me to network all throughout my community and turn this home-body into a not-quite-so-homebody. It's opened up so many doors and led me in so many directions I'd never even considered and I can't wait to see how the future unfolds.
