I love the song Copperhead Road and wanted so badly to tie it into this piece somehow for obvious reasons, but, since literally nothing in that song applies to anything in my life (go look up the lyrics, I'll wait...), I'll pull one random little line and we'll just go with it:
I came home with a brand new plan.
This is a new year, a new month, and a new start in many ways. Yes, I know these things are supposed to start January 1st but I'm not a big fan of New Year's resolutions - this isn't a resolution - it's a brand new plan.
This year, I've planned a 12-piece series featuring Georgia Wildlife. The Eastern Copperhead is the first - he took 5 months from start to finish (with quite a big gap thanks to holidays and a complete lack of motivation) but I'm determined to finish one per month and have a complete collection by the end of 2024. Prints and originals will all be available but the release date(s) are still to be determined. Stay tuned!
This is my first ever series - up until now, all my pieces have been very random, either commissioned by someone, recommended by a friend, or inspired by something I found interesting in the moment. But this - these Georgia Wildlife pieces - they are intentional and focused.
Don't get me wrong, I'll still be creating other pieces as the mood strikes but this collection will be my primary focus for the year. I absolutely cannot wait to share the next piece! It's been floating around in my head for months but I was determined to finish this copperhead first. It's going to be so great!
This is quite arguably the best picture I'll share of this piece. Meet my newest Quality Control Manager, Cheddar Bay Biscuit (Cheddar for short, Jalapeño Cheddar when he's being spicy). He's the sweetest, snuggliest little baby and just as feisty as any orange cat you can imagine.
Making some progress...
And finally, 5 months after starting, and 18-20 hours of burning, my Eastern Copperhead is complete!
