Meet Liz Pritchard, Pyrography Artist
How it started
When the boredom of Covid Quarantine in 2020 hit hard, I picked up a wood-burning kit my son had received for Christmas a few years prior. It was instant love. I quickly upgraded to a professional burner with the intent of creating Christmas gifts for friends and family to help save a bit of cash during the most expensive time of year. After sharing a few pieces on social media, I was encouraged to set up an Etsy shop. It started slow as was expected, but by the first Christmas, it was a little overwhelming!
How it's going
That love has turned into passion, and that passion has turned into a growing business. As all my fellow artists can attest, there are seasons of both feast and famine, but when it rains, it really pours (was that enough clichés?). During November and December, I don't actually sleep, I just survive on lots of caffeine and adrenaline and then crash for about 24 hours once every few weeks.
Business aside, I'm constantly growing as an artist. Over the last few years, I've learned new techniques, made mistakes, found new ideas, had major fails, and created beautiful art. It's a never-ending process of growth and learning. I've met so many new friends - fellow artists and clients - through this journey and it's brought so much confidence and added some much needed spice to my life.
My favorite pieces are custom pieces requested by clients. While I enjoy creating art that I love, it's much more gratifying to work with an individual and bring their ideas to life. There's nothing quite like helping someone else's vision come to life.
A bit about my personal life
I have 2 wild, crazy, fun-loving kids, a wild, crazy, fun-loving husband, 1 wild, crazy, fun-loving dog, 1 grumpy old dog and 2 foster-fail kittens who really enjoy bringing me lizards and the occasional snake. We live in a small but thriving town in south Georgia, way south of the gnat line so you won't see me outside unless I'm in the pool, at the beach, watching my kids at soccer or tending to my garden. My day job as a health insurance broker keeps me busy most days, and the rest of my time is spent doing the house-wife & mom thing. As much as I love pyrography, I love cooking equally. If you follow me on social media, you'll quickly discover I love making sushi, trying new recipes, and teaching my kids to love the art of cooking as well.
Interested in learning Pyrography?
Follow me! I'll be posting tips and tricks and eventually video tutorials both here and across my social media accounts.
Join me! I'm a co-admin for a beginners pyrography group on Facebook - search Beginner's Pyrography Group (can't find it? send me a message!). We welcome everyone from those just interested in learning what on earth pyrography is to experienced artists and everyone in between. We all learn from each other and there's a wealth of knowledge shared among all our artists.
Email me! I'm happy to share any advice and help fellow artists learn this beautiful art. While I'm certainly not the most skilled artist and there are so many better and more experienced than me, I love helping how I can. Please don't hesitate to ask me how I do something or what tools I use; I don't view fellow artists as competition, I see you as friends to join me on this journey.
